Tweed Fender Champ 5F1 C 07927

2010 May 10

More pictures today, this time of a 5F1 model tweed Fender Champ, serial number C 07927.  Dating this amp by serial number tells us it was made in late 1958. We can also see from the two letter code stamped on the tube chart (HI) that this amp was manufactured in September of 1958.  We also have a photo of speaker and can estimate a manufacture date by the speaker code, 465-823.  The 465 tells us this is an Oxofrd speaker and the 823 tells us this speaker was made in the 23rd week of 1958.  This makes sense as we would expect a speaker to be made before the amplifier was assembled.  The silvery capacitor is a replacement.  This amp recently sold for $737.

I don’t have any replacement speakers in stock. If you can’t find a suitable replacement on eBay, give my friend Billy Penn over at 300guitars.com a shout. He might be able to help.
