Tweed Fender Champ C-12407
Another vintage tweed Fender Champ is featured today. This one is a 1959 5F1 model. I’m a little light on photos but the serial number is C-12407.
This tells us that this amp was manufactured near the end of 1959, probably in November/December.
We know that right around C-12500 was the cut off between 1959 and 1960 from the extensive research done by Greg Gagliano. Without a picture of the tube chart code, we don’t really have much else to go on, not even a picture of the speaker code.
The power cord looks like a 3 prong replacement. I can’t tell much about the speaker from the little slice that is visible. One obvious item of interest is the lower rear cover panel. It looks like it isn’t the standard diagonal tweed that Fender used at the time. It looks more like a square pattern which would indicate that it was replaced at some point. Given the pretty close color match between what was presumably a replacement lower panel and the rest of the original tweed, I would guess it was done fairly early in the life of this amp.
