Tweed Fender Champ 5F1 C-22782

I’ve got photos of Transition Fender Champ 5F1 serial number C-22782 for your pleasure today. Dating this amp by its serial number tells us it was made towards the end of 1964. The rough cutoff date for these Transition Champs is C-23000. There weren’t too many more of these made before the circuit was redesigned and the Champ moved squarely into the blackface era of Fender’s amp design.
We can look at the two letter tube chart date code for a more accurate date. The two letter code for this amp is NH. The first letter stands for the year of manufacture (N = 1964) and the second letter corresponds with the month of manufacture (H = August).
Overall, this amp looks like it is in great condition. There are no tears in the tolex covering and it looks remarkably clean for an amp that is 46 years old. It looks like three of the capacitors have been replaced and it looks like that is a replacement speaker too. That two prong brown lamp cord is certainly not original.

I have an amp like yours and will post pictures soon. What kind of a preamp tube shield do you have ? I can’t seem to find one that fits. The socket is similar to the one in my tweed deluxe , but the shield don’t fit. On my tweed champ the sockets also different, but the blackface style fits that and not the transitional one. Thanks for your help..Danny
You might have some luck on eBay looking for a tube shield. The shields are a bit sporadic on amps. I presume since they are a bit of a pain in the neck to get off and back on. I always feel like I’m going to break a tube when I pull one off!
